Studio

My clay studio

In March 2024, I was fortunate enough to be presented with an opportunity for a new studio.

Until that date, I had been sharing my little studio room at home with both wool and clay, and we made it work, despite the to-ing and fro-ing of each materials and the extra clean up time.

This new space feels so perfect - the large space is dedicated to workshop space, where our studio residents or guest tutors can run classes. The other studio resident is a painter and printmaker.
The venue feels perfect not simply because of the larger space and room for my kiln, but it feels like it is a combination of serendipity, luck and reward, and that the space itself will bring us luck.

We also invite guest tutors to run their workshops, and other makers to use the Studio as a creative co-sharing space.

I will be journaling too, at random times, which you can find here, and I will add some work-in-progress photographs on this page, as well as some photos of the space itself.

My textile studio…

I have been working with textiles, primarily wool, since 2011. It has been a wonderfully healing process , and a steep lurning curve at the beginning.

The boxroom at home is my storage area (and where the Community Shawl sits on her mannequin in beween shows), and I use the lovely captain’s desk and chair I inherited from my stepfather, for my sketching, journalling, sewing and making. Thankfully it is just about large enough for a row of books, a sewing machine, notebooks and a laptop - it is a happy coincidence that the dining room table is within reach!
